Computer based artwork
Despite an ongoing tendency to obsess over new technology, I've never really been very good at getting it to work properly. Evidence of this exists in the form of some fairly dodgy early video works and, most obviously in the work I've made for computers.
Here are the principal culprits:

Encyclopædia, 2000. CD-ROM
This is exactly what it sounds like. The main differences being the pedigree of the contributors and the comprehensiveness of its coverage. I didn't really have the time, money or resources to facilitate the kind of research favoured by Encyclopedia Brittanica. So instead, I looked up all the people whom I felt had made a valuable contribution to my own world-view and asked them to tell me something of what they know. I video taped these contributions and put the whole lot together on a user friendly CD-ROM. The whole thing was then published and distributed (with an accompanying book) by Film & Video Umbrella. You can find out more about it here and buy it here.
Self Defence / First Aid, 1998. CD-ROM and online.
I sent my big brother (ex-biker, tough, tattooed, handy in a fight, always looked out for me growing up) an e-mail describing a hypothetical scenario in which I'm being attacked in my home by an intruder. I wanted him to advise me on how I might possibly defend myself using just whatever may come to hand in this kind of situation. I sent my big sister (qualified nurse, closest sibling in age, cared for and doted on me as a child) an e-mail describing the same scenario and asking for advice on how I might treat any imagined injuries or wounds I may sustain. I telephoned each of them to hear their responses to these requests. I video-taped my own half of the subsequent conversations and made audio recordings of my siblings advice. The resulting material was edited and produced as a CD-ROM work for a gallery setting and later re purposed as an online work for an All Horizons Club project. Unfortunately the online version ceased to exist a long time ago, when I changed ISP. One day I might resurrect it.
